Jagan’s Delhi protest Is A Futile Exercise

Sunday, November 17, 2024

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is going to stage a protest in New Delhi on Wednesday ( July 24th) along with his MLAs, MPs and MLCs to draw the attention of the central government and highlight his allegations on the state government. He alleges that the ruling dispensation in the state led by the NDA alliance under CM Chandrababu Naidu has resorted to political vendetta and upended the law and order in just 50 days after coming to power.

Jagan’s decision to protest in Delhi came after the sensational Vinukonda incident in which a YSRCP supporter was hacked to death by his friend in the middle of a road last week. Jagan wrote to the Prime Minister of India demanding president rule in the state to control the lawlessness that has been prevailing in the state. But, his letter hardly received any response from the centre and there is no reaction from anyone in Modi’s government.

While it is unclear whether Jagan will get a chance to meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minster during this visit to Delhi, his protest is likely to end up as a futile exercise because there won’t be much attention in the media for his allegations. The entire country knows how badly Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government in the last five years handled the law and order in the state. Violent activities were rampant all over the state and the opposition parties were treated with high-handedness during several incidents during his regime.

Moreover, Jagan’s party has got very low representation in both the state assembly and the parliament. There are chances that some of these elected representatives who are in plans to defect to other parties are likely to skip the call given by Jagan to protest in Delhi. As Jagan is not inclined to the INDIA bloc, there will no support for his protest from any other political in the country. Besides this, the BJP is an ally of the ruling government in Andhra Pradesh. So, the Modi’s won’t encourage Jagan’s tantrums because it is too early to say that there is a law and order issue in the state which saw a change in the guard only a month ago.

Many believe that Jagan Mohan Reddy wants to gain political mileage out of deaths caused due to personal rivalry and stay in the limelight after the humiliating defeat in the recent assembly elections. Moreover, he has been facing criticism from all quarters for skipping assembly sessions in the name of protest for unnecessary reasons.
