Former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy after spending crores of rupees claiming to develop government schools on the lines of corporate schools, later was forced to close them for want of students and merged those classes with other schools. This shows his `mindless educational reforms’ era.
If there is a high school within a kilometer, the 3rd, 4th and 5th classes of the primary school in that area have been merged into the high school. 4200 primary schools across the state were closed in the name of merger. All of them are now turned to single teachers schools for the lack of a minimum strength of 20 students.
Among them, 59 schools were closed as children in both classes have left. Schools were closed due to this. About Rs.5.26 crore was spent on these 73 closed schools. All those funds were wasted. These include 59 primary, three higher primary and 11 high schools.
There is a primary school in West Godavari District Undi Mandal Chinapulleru. Jagan’s government spent Rs. 10.41 lakhs and developed the Nadu-Nedu scheme in phase-1. Later classes 3, 4 and 5 of the school were merged into another school. This school was closed three months ago due to lack of students. Moreover, none of the school development works he started were completed.
The government announced that it will complete the works in three years and has done the works only in 15,000 schools. Some works are pending in that too. In the second phase, work was started on 22,000 buildings, but due to non-release of funds, the work stopped there. When the second phase of the work was started with Rs.8,000 crores, only half of the funds were spent.
The authorities are working to bring back the loans brought in the name of Nadu-Nedu as they were diverted to other needs. There is Ayyavaripalli Primary School in Vempalle Mandal, Pulivendula Constituency of YSR Kadapa District. During the YCP government, under Nadu-Nedu the school was developed, spending Rs.10 lakhs in the second phase.
Flooring is done with tiles. Toilets are modernized. Damaged walls were repaired and painted. A wall was built. School started in June this year after summer vacation. But only three students came to this school. So, they were given TCs and enrolled in the primary school of Vempalli Rajareddy Colony. Bhumireddy Purushottam Reddy, the only teacher here, was sent to Vempalle. Later he was transferred to Pulivendula.
