India has been given the presidency of G20 countries. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the presidency of the G20 countries as part of the second day of the summit in Bali, Indonesia. Modi took over the G20 presidency from Indonesian President Joko Widodo amid applause from the heads of member states and delegations of the respective countries.
India will continue to chair the G20 for one year (December 1 to November 20 of 2023). Speaking on the occasion, Modi described the G20 presidency as an honor for every Indian. He also stated that the conferences to be held in India next year will be organized in different cities of the country.
Meanwhile, PM Modi partook in several bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit and was captured by the media while speaking to Chinese President Xi Jinping, a first since the Galwan Valley incident. Other world leaders in attendance included US President Joe Biden, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
On the other, the second day of the two-day summit was also marked by worries about an escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war. As we know that two people were recently killed in a missile blast in Poland which even escalated the issues between Russia and Ukraine.
