Indian 2 is billed as one of the much anticipated sequels of the year because of the formidable Shankar – Kamal Haasan combination. There have been massive expectations surrounding this project ever since it was announced four years ago because the first part that released 28 years ago in 1996 turned out to be a path breaking attempt by the duo.
Unfortunately, the box office prospects look bleak as the film crashed so badly on its first Monday which is very crucial for any film. Indian 2 started on moderate note at the box office with 55 Crores gross on the first day last Friday. Due to negative reviews and disappointing word of mouth, the film managed to end up with a below par first weekend with 110 Crores gross.
On Monday, the collections plunged drastically with a worldwide gross of paltry 5 Crores. The chances of any improvement on weekdays are very slender as there are no positive aspects in the film. Neither families nor mass audiences liked the film due the dragged-out runtime and lackluster narration without any high moments.
Critics panned Shankar for losing his Midas touch with Indian 2. Kamal Haasan and Anirudh Ravichander also couldn’t contribute much to the lifeless script.
Indian 2 is likely to end up as a huge loss venture for trade circles because of the high budget and the time involved for its production.
