The opposition INDIA alliance has finally announced its Vice Presidential candidate, naming Justice Sudarshan Reddy, an extremely respected ex-Supreme Court judge and a Telugu leader with much pride, for the dignified position.
A native of Akulamaillaram village in the Ranga Reddy district, Justice Reddy finished his studies in Hyderabad and later obtained a law degree from Osmania University. Justice Reddy started working as a lawyer in the Andhra Pradesh High Court and subsequently graduated to become a judge and chief justice.
Justice Reddy was on the Supreme Court bench from 2007 to 2011, and there, he gained fame for his precedent-setting judgments, most notably those revolving around social justice and equality.
His nomination has also been embraced by the larger legal community and many pointed to the candidate being nominated from Telangana for the first time for the Vice Presidential elections as a testimonial historic significance in itself. A moment of pride for Telangana and the people of Telangana.
On the other hand, the incumbent NDA has nominated C.P. Radhakrishnan from Tamil Nadu as its Vice Presidential candidate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already made a call for unopposed voting in his favour. The move by the INDIA bloc to retaliate with Justice Reddy has infused a new sense of political excitement before the election.
