HYDRA, a taskforce organisation set up by Revanth Reddy’s government in Telangana to reclaim the encroached lands and protect lakes and ponds in and around Hyderabad, is moving ahead with its demolition drive at a rapid speed. While the government is making all efforts to consolidate the powers to be exercised by this disaster management agency by enforcing a legal protection to its activities, HYDRA continues to raze down more buildings which were constructed in buffer zones and FTLs.
After taking a short break for a few days, HYDRA is back in action today morning as the demolition activity resumed under heavy police protection. Reportedly, HYDRA has now moved onto Kukatpally, a bustling area which has the largest number of settlers in Telangana. Kukatpally is often referred as mini Andhra because many of the residents here migrated from different places of Andhra Pradesh. Yet, the Revanth Reddy’s government has decided to remove the illegal buildings in Kukatpally surroundings.
On Sunday morning, HYDRA officials started demolishing several structures which occupied the ‘Nalla Cheruvu’ lake that comes under sensitive zone. With the help of JCBs and heavy deployment of police personnel, HYDRA began its demolition drive in the early hours. Out of the 27 acres, 7 acres of buffer zone and FTL has been occupied by illegal encroachment. HYDRA started removing the sheds and other structures which were not occupied by the public.
Up next, HYDRA will also demolish the buildings around Musi river. Those living on the banks of Musi will be rehabilitated as per the Chief Minister’s recent statements.
