High Court Flays AP DGP’s Non-Response To TDP Leaders

Tuesday, December 24, 2024

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has expressed its deep displeasure over the DGP’s non-response to the petitions given by several TDP candidates who are going to contest the elections to provide the details of the cases registered against them.

The High Court wondered why DGP was not giving details even one month after their petitions. It asked, how much time is required to submit the details of the cases? It reminded that as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court, it is the responsibility of the police to provide the details of the cases.

Addressing the government counsel, High Court commented that if the Supreme Court orders had been followed, the cases would have already been reported. It said that the petitioners may be disqualified if they do not mention the details of the cases registered against them at the time of nominations.

It has been suggested that special officers should be appointed to provide information. It is said that if AI technology is used, the information can be provided within two or three hours. The High Court has issued verbal instructions to the DGP and the police to provide the details of the cases registered against the petitioners by the 16th of this month. The hearing was adjourned to the 16th of this month. To this extent, High Court judge Justice K Srinivasa Reddy gave orders on Friday.

Those who sought the DGP about details of cases pending against them include TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, General Secretary Nara Lokesh, State President Achchennaidu, former ministers Ayyannapatradu, Dr P Narayana and former MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Dhulipala Narendra and Vangalapudi Vanitha.

Bharat Chaitanya Yuvajana Party President B. Ramachandra Yadav also filed a separate petition in the High Court. Speaking on behalf of the police, Special Counsel for the Government Maheswara Reddy said that ‘the details of the cases registered against the petitioners should be brought from the district SPs. The petition is being given directly to the DGP without consulting the SPs. This made it difficult to get information. We will follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court.”
