Harish Rao Faces Legal Action In Phone Tapping Case

Wednesday, December 18, 2024

The phone tapping probe is gathering momentum with serious legal implications for the former BRS minister Harish Rao. Congress leader from Siddipet Chakradhar Goud has lodged a complaint at the Panjagutta Police Station in Hyderabad with an accusation that Harish Rao along with former Task Force DCP Radhakishan Rao hatched a conspiracy to indulge in illegal tapping of his mobile phone during the previous assembly elections.

In his complaint, Goud has alleged that false cases were filed against him, and he was harassed, while his family members were threatened. He has demanded speedy action against the culprits. The police have booked charges under Sections 120 (B), 386, 409, and the IT Act against both Harish Rao and Radhakishan Rao. Large-scale phone tapping under the previous government is also alleged.

The case has become complex as the main suspect, Prabhakar Rao, is said to have flown to the United States and obtained a Green Card. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs issued notices to Prabhakar Rao and Shravan Rao, asking them why their passports should not be cancelled. The Indian authorities have asked both the accused to appear at embassies in their respective places and a decision on the status of their passports will depend on their replies.
