Genelia Opens Up About Comeback Struggles After a Decade-Long Hiatus

Wednesday, April 2, 2025
Actress Genelia, who returned to the big screen with Ved after nearly a decade, recently revealed the challenges she faced in making a comeback. Speaking at a recent event, she shared that when she decided to return to films, she received little support from those around her, which left her disheartened.
“I never prioritized success or failure in my career. Wins and losses are a part of life, but what truly matters is how we navigate through it. I have worked in nearly six languages, but after becoming a mother, I felt the need to step away from acting. When I decided to return, no one I knew encouraged me. Many told me, ‘You are returning after ten years? This won’t work.’ Despite the skepticism, I took the leap, and Ved, in which I starred alongside Riteish, turned out to be a huge success. This experience reinforced the importance of self-belief over external validation,” she stated.
During her decade-long break, Genelia focused entirely on her family and children.
The Mumbai-based actress made her film debut with Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003) and gained immense popularity in Telugu cinema with films like Sye, Bommarillu, and Ready. She met Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh during her debut film’s shoot, and their bond eventually led to marriage with family approval. After stepping away from films post-marriage, she made her comeback with Ved, the Marathi remake of Majili. Her performance in the film, particularly in the role of a homemaker, was widely appreciated by audiences.
