AP DGP Dwaraka Tirumala Rao revealed that Smart Police AI with Artificial Intelligence is being used for the first time in the country as part of Smart Policing. Eluru Police has launched it for the first time and it will soon be expanded to other districts in the state.
The DGP said that this Smart Police AI will assist the investigating officer from crime registration to case investigation. In addition, Vijayawada Police is using artificial intelligence technology called AI Vajrastra for traffic and crowd management, he said, adding that it was recently used during the Bhavani fast and Dussehra celebrations.
He also said that the use of drones has also been increased in crime control and maintenance of peace and security. The DGP announced that one lakh CCTV cameras will be connected to the police command control by March 2025. He revealed that with the participation of the public, more than 25,000 CCTV cameras are already being used for crime control.
He deplored that the number of cyber crimes is increasing compared to the past. He said that 916 cases related to cyber crime have been registered this year and a total of Rs. 1,229 crores of cash was smuggled through cyber crimes. He advised that if a complaint is filed within an hour in cases where money is lost in cyber crimes, it will be possible to recover it.
The DGP appealed to the people not to believe such calls as there is no such thing as digital arrest in the law. He explained that new Cyber PSs are being set up in every district to prevent such cyber crimes.
Dwaraka Tirumala Rao that the Eagle system is going strong among the people in the case of ganja and drugs cases and that a wide campaign will be organized to prevent these. The DGP informed that this year in tribal areas ganja was destroyed in 10,380 acres this year and planted alternative crops.
