The state government has decided to invite new tenders for the construction works of the new Andhra capital Amaravati. The old tenders that have become an obstacle to the continuation of the works so far have been cancelled and new tenders will be invited soon. The 39th meeting of the CRDA was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu at the Amaravati Secretariat on Monday.
New tenders will be called for the High Court and Assembly buildings by January. Tenders will be invited for all the remaining works by December 31. Municipal Administration Minister Dr P. Narayana said that old tenders have become an obstacle to the revival of Amaravati construction works.
On July 24, the government appointed a technical committee comprising chief engineers to formulate procedures to close them. This committee submitted a report on the 29th of last month with about 23 items. The report was discussed and approved in the CRDA meeting held on Monday. As per the committee’s recommendation, the old tenders will be closed and… new tenders will be called.
“We will complete all the development works of Amaravati in the next three years. In five years, Amaravati will emerge as one of the five best cities in the world,” said Minister Narayana. The minister said that estimates will be made for the construction of Amaravati as per the SSR rates and new tenders will be called.
He said that the SSR rates will be revised. He said that if new tenders are called again, the prices are likely to increase by at least 10-15 percent. He said that Rs. 5,000 crores were paid to the contract companies in the past, and now they have to pay up to Rs. 600 crores.
He said that the agencies have discussed with the Chief Engineers Committee to seal their old tenders. He said that there is no need to pay any compensation to the contractors. Minister Narayana said that the World Bank has agreed to provide Rs. 15,000 crores for the development works of Amaravati, but the representatives of the bank have requested that the flood prevention works be completed as soon as possible.
