CM Chandrababu given green signal to set up 80 more Rythu Bazars

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has given green signal to the proposal of setting up 80 more Rythu Bazars across the state, besides , = 127 Rythu Bazars that have been functioning for years. Rythu Bazars were first formulated by Chandrababu Naidu, when he was Chief Minister of the combined state and he started several Rythu Bazars in the state in 1999. These were intended to extend support to small and marginal farmers and also to provide quality vegetables to the people at low prices without any opportunity for exploitation by middlemen.

Over the past 25 years, they have been expanding with great popularity and today their number has reached 127. Every year, more than Rs. 2,000 crore of business is done through Rythu Bazars. As vegetables are available at low prices, the crowd is increasing day by day as people are interested in buying them.

In this context, the coalition government is working to increase the number of Rythu Bazars. It has taken steps to establish more Rythu Bazars mainly in the suburbs of cities and towns as cities and towns are expanding. The government has decided to construct cool chambers and cord rooms in old farmers’ markets as well as in new ones.

With these already being set up in 10 places in the state, farmers are storing their produce there when the market price is low and selling it after getting a reasonable price. Minister Atchannaidu revealed that steps will be taken to make commercial crops available in farmers’ markets, which are currently limited to vegetables.

“There are now 127 Rythu Bazars. In addition to these, we will set up 80 more new Rythu Bazars. We will develop this into a business entity. We will take steps to make commercial crops available in the farmers’ markets, which are currently limited to vegetables”, he added.
