CID Takes Main Accused Into Custody In TDP Headquarters Attack

Thursday, November 21, 2024

Andhra Pradesh CID officials have detained Panuganti Chaitanya, the key suspect in the attack on the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headquarters. Authorities allege that Chaitanya was directly involved in the assault, and the CID is currently interrogating him to uncover the masterminds behind this incident.

The probe has been made into the identity of who may have facilitated Chaitanya, as he was able to avoid capture by the law enforcing authorities for a long period before moving from state to state. Some leaders of the YSRCP are accused of having helped him to avoid arrests. In the final phase of it all, it was the police of Mangalagiri who finally arrested him.

The Mangalagiri rural police initiated an investigation and lodged a case on the attack. Chaitanya is at present lodged as an undertrial in Guntur district jail. Responding to the incident, the Andhra Pradesh government had entrusted the case to CID for further investigation. In the process, CID officers pulled out all the file details of the investigation from the Mangalagiri rural police station.

The CID has filed a petition before the court seeking permission from the court to interrogate Chaitanya. The court granted permission to take him into custody for the purpose of interrogation. As per the said permission, CID officials picked up Chaitanya from the Guntur district jail and had whisked him away for interrogation. So far, that is being done at the CID regional office in Guntur. There are news reports that several YSRCP leaders are anxious about the names that Chaitanya might reveal now as he is being questioned.

It is an unfolding of the investigation in Andhra Pradesh with far-reaching implications for the political scenario.
