Wednesday, December 25, 2024

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is likely to make some crucial announcements during his visit to Visakhapatnam. He would be visiting to review the progress of the metro corridor as well as various IT projects that are planned to be undertaken in the city. He would also visit the Rushikonda buildings whose mounting maintenance cost has been talking about their future use.

On Saturday, Naidu would be attending an all-important meeting where the key items to be discussed would touch upon a number of the government departments that include GVMC, VMRDA, and revenue department. For preparation purposes reports from 40 departments had been sought, and in this regard such meetings will provide some groundwork for discussion on information technology, tourism, road infrastructure, among other areas.

The inspection of the ₹500 crore building constructed by Jagan at Rushikonda will form a highlight of his visit, with officials making all necessary arrangements for this tour. Naidu will also give valuable recommendations regarding the Visakhapatnam Metro Line project, for which the government has already submitted proposals.

During his visit, Naidu will discuss in detail the controversial Rushikonda buildings. He had asked officials to submit detailed reports on these structures of 9.88 acres. Earlier, TDP leaders and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan had also visited these structures. The cost of maintenance is sky-high running into an amount of over ₹1 lakh per day, roughly ₹4 crores annually.

There is a daily manpower requirement of up to 100 men in the buildings for plumbing, electric work, and housekeeping; and another 50 will be required for shifts. There is talk going around that it should be taken over by the government or be transferred to private firms to be managed. Even if it is taken over by APTDC, questions would arise as to whether personnel with the right skill level and adequate infrastructure would be available. Hence, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu may himself take a final decision on his visit on their usage.
