Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu paid rich tributes to Potti Sriramulu, describing him as an immortal figure whose self-sacrifice paved the way for the creation of linguistic states in India. Speaking at a program held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada to mark Sriramulu’s self-sacrifice day, the Chief Minister lauded him as the sole individual who gave his life for a steadfast cause, leading to the formation of Andhra Pradesh.
Chandrababu highlighted the renaming of Nellore district as Potti Sriramulu district as a tribute to his legacy and announced the establishment of a Telugu University in the state in his honor. “Potti Sriramulu’s spirit should inspire the entire state,” he said.
The Chief Minister criticized the previous YSRCP government for halting key developmental projects initiated during his tenure, including works in Sriramulu’s native village, as well as for setbacks in Amaravati and Polavaram projects. “Our aim is to create a healthy, wealthy, and happy society. The people must not forget the hardships endured during the previous regime,” Chandrababu remarked.
He further emphasized that the state’s growing influence at the Center has brought benefits to Andhra Pradesh.
The event also witnessed the participation of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Atchannaidu.
