Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate release of funds for the Amaravati and Polavaram project, as promised in the union budget. He met the Prime Minister, besides finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and home minister Amit Shah on Saturday evening and urged to fulfill the centre’s commitments in this regard.
He held discussions with PM Modi for over an hour on the problems related to Andhra Pradesh, besides general political scenario. He recalled that finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in this year’s budget to provide Rs 15,000 crore for Amaravati from international financial institutions. The Chief Minister explained the need to expedite the process.
Referring that the Center is yet to approve revised estimations of Polavaram project, the Chief Minister stressed upon the need for the centre’s immediate assistance to resume works, which were blocked by the previous regime in the state. Narrating the financial crisis created by YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s regime, Naidu pleaded the need to reschedule the existing loans, besides giving permission to secure new loans for the state.
He also asked for funds for the development of backward districts and to fulfill various commitments made in the AP Reorganization Act. He asked her to increase the allocations for AP in the revised estimates of the budget. Chandrababu was accompanied by Union Ministers Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Bhupathiraju Srinivasavarma and TDP MP Lau Srikrishna Devaraya.
Later, he briefed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the issue brought to the notice of the Prime Minister and stressed the need for special assistance to the state with regard to various capital intensive projects. With Home Minister Amit Shah, he referred to AP Reorganization Act commitments. He also has a courtesy meeting with Union Steel Minister JD Kumaraswamy.
CM Chandrababu also met Union Health Minister JP Nadda. Nadda in X post said that Chandrababu had shared valuable views with him on accelerating the ongoing development projects in AP and bringing AP to a higher position in development.
Earlier, CM Chandrababu had met Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu at his office. Later, Rammohan Naidu told the media that he had discussed the construction of new airports in Andhra Pradesh with the officials. He said that there are many proposals for the development of new airports at Kuppam, Dagdarthi (Nellore), Nagarjuna Sagar and Tuni.
