A sword of Damocles seems to be hanging over the head of former MP and current MLC of the BRS party in Telangana, Kavitha Kalvakuntla for her alleged role in the infamous Delhi liquor scam unearthed by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation. Kavitha, daughter of former Chief Minister KCR, has been under the scanner of both these probe agencies ever since the scam came to light in 2022.
It is a known fact that Kavitha was summoned by CBI afresh to attend for inquiries on February 26th. Reports are rife that the CBI has enlisted Kavitha’s name in the accused list based on the deposition given by her close associates Ashok Kumar Kaushik and Magunta Raghava, who were detained by the CBI in connection with this case.
Kavitha is likely to face arrest if she turns up for inquiry on the coming Monday. It is heard that the CBI has strong evidence of Kavitha’s involvement in this multi Crore scam which was made out by tinkering with the Excise Policy of the Delhi government for the year 2021-2022.
The policy was scrapped by the Arvind Kejriwal government following the corruption allegations. But, the CBI unearthed several irregularities during its investigation and arrested many businesspersons who collided with the officials and politicians to gain undue advantage in tenders.
Some of the kingpins who were arrested in this case are Arun Ramachandra Pilla, Magunta Srinivasula Reddy, Abhishek Boinapally, Butchibabu Gorantla, Manish Sisodia and a few others. The CBI even recorded the statement of Arvind Kejriwal and summoned him to attend inquiries on six occasions. However, he didn’t turn for the investigation.
Only Kavitha and Kejriwal are the only ones who have not been arrested so far among those who are facing charges in this case. So, there is a strong buzz that both of them might be arrested this time.
Kavitha also skipped the interrogation several times and also brought a stay from the Supreme Court against her inquiries. But, the probe agencies are tightening the noose for both Kavitha and Kejriwal. They are served with 41A notices to attend for inquiry.
All eyes are now on the next development and how both the Aam Aadmi party and the BRS will react if their leaders are arrested in the coming week.
