YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) politician Borugadda Anil Kumar, arrested for making offensive comments on social media against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Minister Nara Lokesh, and their families, was released on conditional bail by the Anantapur district court on Saturday.
Despite securing bail in one of the cases, Anil Kumar’s legal troubles are far from over. He will remain in custody as he continues to face multiple charges. Alongside the social media case, he is also booked for allegedly threatening a Circle Inspector in Anantapur district. So far, Anil has been remanded four times, each for 14-day periods.
While the court’s latest order granted him bail in the case related to threatening the police officer, Anil continues to be held at Rajahmundry Central Jail under remand for the social media abuse case. His challenges deepened after it came to light that he had earlier secured bail by submitting medical certificates claiming his mother was seriously ill. A police investigation later found that the certificates were fake, resulting in a further case being registered against him for creating false documents.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court took serious cognizance of the fake medical documents and showed strong displeasure and raised doubts whether Anil Kumar was trying to deceive the judiciary. The High Court asked the police to investigate the issue thoroughly.
Given the multiple charges and ongoing inquiries, Anil Kumar’s release remains uncertain. According to his legal team, even with the bail granted in one case, his immediate release from prison is unlikely as the other cases continue to proceed.
