Borugadda Anil Accused of Submitting Fake Medical Certificate For Bail In AP High Court

Wednesday, April 2, 2025

Borugadda Anil, who was arrested last October following the formation of the coalition government, has now gone missing, creating a major controversy. Anil had been in judicial remand at Rajahmundry Central Jail, facing multiple cases. Although he managed to secure bail in some of them, he remained in custody due to a pending case registered by the Anantapur Fourth Town Police.

On February 14, he moved the High Court, seeking interim bail on humanitarian grounds, claiming his mother, Padmavathi, was in critical condition and required urgent medical treatment. The court granted him interim bail from February 15 to 28, allowing him to take care of his mother’s health. However, as per the court’s directive, he returned to Rajahmundry Jail once the bail period ended.

Just days later, on March 1, Anil once again approached the court with an emergency petition, requesting an extension of his bail. This time, he submitted a medical certificate stating that his mother’s condition had worsened and she needed immediate treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. The certificate was allegedly issued by Dr. PV Raghav Sharma, Chief Cardiologist at Lalitha Super Speciality Hospital in Guntur.

During the hearing, the Assistant Public Prosecutor challenged the validity of the medical certificate and requested the court to verify the document. The judge also issued a warning that legal action would be taken if the document proved fraudulent.

After a Special Branch Police inquiry, it was found that Padmavathi had never been admitted to Lalitha Hospital, and no such medical certificate had ever been issued by the hospital. This fact established that Borugadda Anil had purportedly tried to seek an extension of his bail on the basis of forged documents.

Anil has now gone missing, and his phone, as well as his mother’s, is still switched off. The police have conducted a massive search for him, and his unexpected disappearance has sparked widespread speculation. With the deadline for his return to custody being March 11, everyone now waits with bated breath to see if Anil will turn himself in or keep running from the law. In the meantime, the police are likely to file legal cases against him for forgery of documents and misleading the judiciary.
