Review :
When the sequel was announced, many were curious about how Shankar would handle the 28-year gap between the original and the sequel, particularly in portraying Senapathi as an elderly man.
Kamal Haasan excels in his role, captivating the audience with his trademark expressions. Siddharth delivers a compelling performance, particularly in scenes filled with emotional depth. Samuthirakani impresses despite limited screen time. Bobby Simha and the rest deliver satisfactory performances in their respective roles.
Although Shankar’s concept of reintroducing Senapathi to a contemporary, technologically advanced yet corrupt India is intriguing, the execution doesn’t quite live up to expectations. The anticipated emotional drama, a characteristic feature of Shankar’s films, is notably lacking.
The screenplay suffers from weaknesses, especially in the second half. Emotional scenes lack depth and could have been more effectively written. Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, SJ Suryah, and others have minimal roles and make little impact in the sequel.
A notable drawback is the music, which could have enhanced several scenes significantly. Anirudh’s underwhelming score often makes moments feel lackluster.
Bharateeyudu 2 is a film that moves at a slow pace but manages to hold interest. However, when compared to the original, it falls short in several aspects, suggesting that Shankar may have missed the mark. Kamal Haasan’s performance is solid, and Siddharth delivers a satisfactory performance. Nevertheless, the slow-paced storytelling, lack of emotional depth, and mediocre music score are notable drawbacks. If you choose to watch it, manage your expectations accordingly.
