Vijayawada: Discontent among Congress leaders in Assam has surfaced following the obstruction of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the Sri Sri Shankar Dev Satra temple in Bordwa during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Authorities halted Rahul’s progress at the village of Hayaboragaon, leading to a protest by Congress women leaders who accused the local BJP leadership of obstructing Rahul Gandhi. Responding to these developments, AP Congress leaders, led by state Congress chief YS Sharmila, staged a protest at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Vijayawada.
During the demonstration, Sharmila strongly criticized the BJP leadership, questioning the justice in preventing Rahul Gandhi’s temple visit. She asserted the right of ordinary people to visit places of worship, questioning whether permission from Modi and the Chief Minister of Assam should be required. Sharmila demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Assam Chief Minister regarding the denial of permission to Rahul Gandhi, condemning what she deemed an autocratic rule and highlighting the erosion of democratic values. As elections approach, she expressed confidence that the people would respond resolutely to the autocratic tendencies of the BJP government.
