AP Speaker Accepts Ganta Srinivasa Rao’s Resignation

Amaravati: The resignation of TDP Visakhapatnam North MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, submitted almost three years ago on February 12, 2021, has finally been accepted by Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Thammineni Sitaram. Ganta’s resignation was initially prompted by his opposition to the Centre’s move to privatize the Vizag steel plant, but the Speaker did not act on the request despite personal appeals. Speculation surrounds the timing of the acceptance of the resignation, with considerations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls where the terms of three YSRCP members conclude in April.

While the TDP may lack sufficient MLAs for a victory, the YSRCP aims to eliminate any risk of cross-voting, a scenario witnessed during MLC elections in their term. This move could potentially impact the TDP’s chances of securing a win for its nominee. Notably, the resignation of Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who recently quit the YSRCP as Mangalagiri MLA, is still pending approval by the Speaker.
