Andhra Pradesh is seeing a new round of political churn as controversy envelops ex-YSRCP MP Gorantla Madhav. The episode follows an altercation between Madhav and Chebrolu Kiran, who was recently arrested for reportedly making derogatory remarks against former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s wife, Y.S. Bharathi.
In a dramatic turn of events, Madhav reportedly attempted to confront Kiran during his arrest. The situation escalated quickly, leading to Madhav’s own arrest. He was produced before the court and subsequently remanded. However, what followed has triggered massive public outcry—not because of Madhav’s actions alone, but due to the way police handled the entire episode.
According to sources, senior police officials flagged multiple breaches in protocol during Madhav’s custody. An internal inquiry was promptly launched, led by Guntur South DSP Bhanodaya, to investigate the sequence of events and determine accountability.
The inquiry unearthed a string of serious lapses. Madhav was seen casually using his mobile phone during a medical examination—an unusual liberty for someone in custody. He also reportedly refused to wear a face mask when brought before the media and was allowed to walk unescorted from the police vehicle into the courtroom. In a particularly concerning moment, another YSRCP leader allegedly handed a mobile phone to Madhav while he was in police custody—without any objection from the officers present.
These instances of negligence prompted swift action from Guntur Range Inspector General. In a decisive move, 11 police personnel were suspended for dereliction of duty. The suspended officials include one Circle Inspector, two Sub-Inspectors, two Assistant Sub-Inspectors, a Head Constable, and five Constables. In addition, DSP Seetharamayya from the Special Branch was transferred from his post.
Video footage of Madhav’s defiance and the passive response from police went viral on social media, fueling widespread public criticism and debate. The suspensions are now being seen as a rare and bold step toward ensuring accountability within the state police force.
