AP High Court says Against Anticipatory Bail For Former YCP Minister Kakani In SC And ST case

Sunday, April 6, 2025

The AP High Court has mentioned that the same court had previously ordered not to issue orders against arrests in the SC and ST cases. Therefore, the AP High Court has ruled that former minister and YSRCP leader Kakani Govardhana Reddy cannot be granted anticipatory bail.

The AP High Court held a hearing on the anticipatory bail petition filed by him on Tuesday. Kakani’s lawyers argued that the cases filed against him were not that serious. However, the government lawyer explained to the court that an SC and ST case has also been registered against Kakani.

The court ordered that the details of the SC and ST case be given to the petitioner and also placed before the court. At this stage, Kakani may be arrested in the SC and ST case, and therefore, his lawyers requested that orders be issued not to arrest him for two days. The government lawyer brought to the court’s attention that Kakani did not appear for the hearing despite being given notices twice.

Moreover, they said that the former minister was not cooperating with the hearing. The High Court adjourned the hearing of the case to April 3 to discuss the fullest extent. It may be recalled, the police have registered a case against former minister Kakani in the case of illegal looting of quartz ore in Rustom Mines in Podalakur mandal of Nellore district.

An FIR has been registered against seven people, including Kakani. While two have already been arrested by the police and produced in court, the court has remanded them for 14 days. Four others are absconding along with Kakani.

The police have already issued notices to Kakani twice in this case. When they went to issue notices for the first time, the police left by pasting a notice on the gate as Kakani was not there. However, shortly after the police left, Kakani posted some photos on social media showing that he had not gone anywhere and was celebrating the Ugadi festival with his family members in Hyderabad.

With this, the police immediately went to Kakani’s house in Hyderabad. But even then, since the former minister was not there, they served notices to his close relative. The notices state that he should appear for questioning at the Nellore DSP office at 11 am on Tuesday. As a result, since Tuesday morning, there has been tension as to whether Kakani will attend the police questioning or not.

Finally, the former minister has refused to appear for the police questioning. He informed the police that he will be available from Thursday. He said that he will come to Nellore on Wednesday to participate in a family function. With this, the police are preparing to serve notices to Kakani once again.
