The AP government has allocated Rs. 600 crores for the development of roads that cannot be repaired in the state. Under the District Main Roads and State Highways Scheme, Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy conducted a review of the development of roads under the Roads and Buildings Department.
He said that almost 20,000 km of roads have already been made pothole-free within a specified time frame with a cost of Rs. 861 crore. He said that Rs. 600 crores have been allocated for the development of these roads under C-category. 86 works are being done in 64 constituencies related to district main roads. For this, the minister revealed that 536 km of roads are being developed at a cost of Rs. 200 crores.
He also explained that 139 works are being done in 99 constituencies related to state highways and 896.41 km of roads are being developed at a cost of Rs. 400 crores. He said that a total of 225 works are being carried out to develop 1,432.41 km of roads at a cost of Rs. 600 crore. He said that as part of the central scheme SASKY, pothole-free roads are being developed in order of priority.
He said that the aim is to build better roads for the people who were troubled by pothole roads during the YSRCP government. He pointed out that motorists are now traveling smoothly on the roads that were hellish for five years during the YSRCP government in AP. After the alliance came to power, he said that it focused on making some R&B roads pothole-free.
The Minister said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has sanctioned Rs. 861.11 crore to fill potholes along 20,058 km. Since the work began in the first week of November, 19,080 kilometers have become pothole-free so far. During the YSRCP regime, roads were ignored and no funds were allocated for filling potholes.
As a result, roads across the state have become extremely bad. They have shown what a living hell it is for motorists with every pothole. Even though people are getting sick and vehicles are getting weaker, the then Chief Minister Jagan has shown complete negligence. He has created a situation where motorists are afraid to go on the road. With this, the coalition government has kept its election promise of providing relief from potholed roads, he added.
