The state government-owned Andhra Pradesh FiberNet, which delivers internet and cable services, has also been accused of corruption and mismanagement. It was during the previous YSR Congress (YSRCP) government that the company reportedly turned into a vehicle for political patronage, with many appointments based on political influence rather than merit. This resulted in a significant decline in FiberNet connections, dropping from 10 million to 5 million.
To address this, AP FiberNet Chairman G.V. Reddy has taken swift action, announcing the dismissal of 410 employees. He emphasized that many of these employees were hired without genuine need and were often politically appointed. Among those let go were individuals who held positions such as cooks and drivers, despite their roles being unrelated to the company’s core operations.
Since taking over, G.V. Reddy has made it a priority to cleanse the organization, focusing on eliminating illegal appointments and restructuring the workforce. He is also working towards making the services more accessible by reducing connection charges and offering affordable new connections, aiming to restore the company’s credibility and improve its service quality.
