The AP Congress has lost its past glory after the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh and it has shown a drastic impact on the party in the 2014 and 2019 general elections.
After emerging victorious in the Telangana elections, the Congress high command has put a special focus on Andhra to regain its past glory. As a part of it, the high command is contemplating pushing YS Sharmila as the face of Congress in that region. Despite Sharmila claiming herself to be the chief minister candidate of Telangana, she has reportedly stepped back at the last moment. The Congress party is chalking out the plans to grab the attention and acclaim of the people by pushing Sharmila as it could fetch some momentum being the daughter of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.
This move can turn the tables to an extent for YSRCP as she also has experience, base, and exposure to Andhra politics. The AP Congress is also bracing for Sharmila’s entry as she is the only one right now who can make an impact in this region. There is also another scenario that which the former Congress leaders who are vexed with Jagan’s decisions can make their way back to the Congress. Either way, it is going to help Congress but have to wait to see how the ruling party YSRC will respond and retaliate on this.
