Vice Chancellors and Registrars of universities in Andhra Pradesh, who were known for their proximity towards YSRCP and notorious for working as agents of the ruling party, started resigning from their positions with the change of government in the state.
Among all of them, most notorious are Andhra University Vice Chancellor Prof PVGD Prasada Reddy and Registrar Stephenson, who violated all decorum and norms of a university and actively involved in the ruling party activities, were resigned from their posts. Prof Kishor Babu has taken charge as in-charge registrar.
Student unions and various civil society organizations have been lamenting the vice chancellor for defaming the university reputation, alleging transforming the university into YSRCP office. He has forced research scholars and staff members to work in the campaign of YCP candidates.
Earlier university researchers and alumni protested against the vice chancellor. State TDP spokesperson Dr. Dasari Shyam also participated in this protest. Dr. Dasari Shyam demanded to sack Prof Prasada Reddy immediately and a judicial inquiry should be conducted into the corruption during his rule.
He alleged that Prof Prasada Reddy acted like YCP office bearer, more than a vice chancellor of a reputed university. He said that the university has been turned into a focal point of YCP politics instead of a center of education.
University staff members have been protesting since some time for appointing an outsider as an registrar, besides appointing retired former registrar Prof Krishnamohan as OSD. All of them were allegedly involved in large scale irregularities in the university, along with in admissions, filling up of posts without notification and giving pass marks to all those who gave money after revaluation.
Several retired non-teaching employees are still continuing in their posts and are being paid salaries of lakhs of rupees.
