The US Department of Transport has given a huge shock to many airlines including Air India airlines. According to the sources, it imposed fines and issued orders to refund the charges to the passengers whose tickets were canceled. In this way, six airlines were ordered to pay a fine of 7.25 million dollars (Rs. 58 crores0 and 622 million dollars (Rs. 4,960 crores) to the passengers.
Speaking about the issue, US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said that flights related to thousands of passengers were either canceled or charged on large scale. Many people are still waiting for the refund of the charges due to the cancellation and delay of flights during Corona.
As a result, the US Department of Transportation acted by imposing fines on the respective airlines. With this, Tata-owned Air India (formerly a public sector company) alone will have to pay back $121.5 million (Rs. 972 crores) to passengers including a fine of 1.4 million dollars.
