DGP Harish Kumar Gupta has warned that the permission given to former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for his Narsipatnam tour on Thursday will be automatically revoked if the police take a different route than the one prescribed, stop the convoy too many times on the way, or hold a large crowd. He made it clear that criminal action will be taken against anyone who violates the rules, regardless of their political status or party affiliation.
He revealed that the police will follow a zero-tolerance policy in this regard. He said that permission has been given for Jagan’s Narsipatnam tour in accordance with the route, time and travel limits prescribed under Sections 30 and 30A of the Police Act. He said that processions, rallies, demonstrations and large crowd gatherings have been banned on the route Jagan is travelling.
The DGP said that political slogans, receptions or meetings should not be held in places other than the permitted areas. He said that gathering activists and people and trying to block traffic will be considered violations of the law. He said that unauthorized vehicles will be seized. He said that the police arrangements are for the protection of the people. He said that the organizers will be responsible for any accident or property damage and theey should give a written guarantee.
Already, the Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle police have given permission for Jagan’s visit to Narsipatnam on Thursday with 18 conditions. The DGP said that only 10 vehicles are allowed in his convoy. The police have given a route map so that there are no problems for the people and traffic.
Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi and Anakapalle SP Tuhin Sinha said that they should go on that route and not take other routes. They said that the organizers should take personal responsibility for any loss of life or damage to government property.
YSRCP leaders have applied for Jagan to travel by road from Visakhapatnam Airport to Makavarapalem, a distance of 63 kilometers. There is information that they will organize a public rally and demonstrate at important intersections on the National Highway. This will disrupt traffic and cause inconvenience to the people. Recently, a stampede occurred in Karur, Tamil Nadu, in which 41 people died.
They said that steps are being taken to prevent such incidents from happening. SP Tuhin Kumar clarified that Jagan should take the initiative to travel by helicopter from Visakhapatnam to Makavarapalem so that people do not face traffic problems.
