Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the heavy rains and flood situation in North Andhra with the collectors of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and other districts through video conference. He inquired about the current situation in the districts. Officials informed the CM that four people have died due to heavy rains and accidents.
One person died in Kancharapalem in Visakhapatnam, two in Mandasa in Srikakulam district, and one in Kurupam in Parvathipuram Manyam district. The Chief Minister ordered the officials to provide compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the affected families.
The Srikakulam Collector explained that 1.89 lakh cusecs of water is flowing into Gotta Barrage and 44 thousand cusecs into Thotapalli. He said that 1.05 lakh cusecs of water is flowing into Vamsadhara due to heavy rains in parts of Odisha. It was explained to the CM that there is currently no rain in North Andhra districts, and there is flooding in the rivers due to the flows coming from above.
They said that trees had fallen in some places due to heavy rains and that 90 percent of the fallen trees had already been removed. EPDCL officials revealed that power supply has been restored to about 90 percent of the districts of North Andhra. The CM has ordered officials to restore power in all areas by this evening. CM Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to ensure that there is no delay in restoring power supply.
Electricity department AEs Srinivas and Ravi Kumar said that the electricity department has suffered property loss of up to Rs. 9 lakh due to heavy rains in the municipality limits of Amadalavalasa mandal in Srikakulam district. They said that 11 large electricity poles and 7 small electricity poles fell in many areas due to heavy rain and strong winds, resulting in power lines being cut in some places.
They said that they have been working day and night to provide power for the past 2 days. Similarly, in Amadalavalasa constituency, crop fields in 2 mandals were flooded due to the high flow of the Vamsadhara river in Amadalavalasa and Sarubujjili mandals. The river’s rise was monitored by Aamdalavalasa SI Balaraju along with his staff.
The villagers were told that there is a possibility of high flow of flood water and that they should be alert and that if necessary, Aamdalavalasa will be shifted to the non-residential area. In Sarubujjili mandal, paddy, maize and horticultural crops were flooded at Pedda Malapeta, Agraharam, Eragam, Patapadu, Chinna Kakitapalli and Pedda Sabalapuram.
