CBI  initiated process To Take Up probe Into Kaleshwaram Irregularities

Friday, December 5, 2025

Soon after the Telangana Assembly resolved handing over Justice PC Ghosh Commission report into irregularities in Kaleshwaram barrages construction, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated the process to take up the probe into it.

As this has gained political significance, the CBI Director Praveen Sood himself visited Hyderabad on Friday and discussed with the local officials on issues related to this case. It may be recalled that Telangana’s Special Chief Secretary to the Home Ministry Ravi Gupta has sent the government’s notification handing over the case for the CBI probe on September 1 and the director himself arrived here on September 5.

With the arrival of the Director, the CBI officials are said to be moving fastly in initiating a probe into this politically sensitive case. He has preliminary discussions on the contest of the Justice PC Ghosh Commission Report and other related matters. He also interacted with officials of Kaleshwaram project.

Home Secretary Ravi Gupta in his letter to the Union Home Ministry and also the CBI, sought a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram report submitted by Justice PC Ghosh Commission, based on the NDSA report. It has proposed an inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Corporation and inter-state issues.

It has been stated that the NDSA report has stated that there were grave irregularities in Kaleshwaram and that the failures in the construction were due to design, quality and other shortcomings in the projects. The Telangana government has also sought an inquiry into the contractors, officials and private companies, including public representatives, in connection with this project.

However, it is interesting that the High Court has asked the state government not to take action against the petitioners (KCR and Harish Rao) based on the report of Justice PC Ghosh, who conducted an inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project. It also said that Justice Ghose’s report should not be handed over to the CBI. But, it has clarified that the NDSA and other reports can be relied upon.
