Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar has addressed the social media backlash following her recent remark that “everyone is naturally bisexual.” The comment drew widespread criticism, which Swara dismissed as unnecessary politicization of a casual statement, calling the criticism “very foolish.”
Speaking to a national media outlet, she said, “What’s wrong with having admiration for a woman? I don’t see it as a big controversy. It’s a very normal thing. I believe appreciating and admiring other women is a good thing. Yet, people are trying to make it a controversy. There are far more important issues in the country that need discussion.”
Swara had earlier joked about having a “girl crush” on Dimple Yadav, wife of former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, which formed the context for her bisexuality comment. She expressed frustration that, since her husband Fahad Ahmed is a politician, even her casual remarks are politicized. “They are politicizing a joke I made in jest. Now, whatever I say is seen as having an impact on my husband. That’s why I feel I might have to be more careful in what I say in the future,” she added.
Following the controversy, Swara updated her X (formerly Twitter) bio to include Girl Crush Advocate in response to online trolling. Swara Bhaskar and Fahad Ahmed are currently participating in the reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga. She was last seen in the 2022 film Jaha Chaar Yaar.
