Senior CPI leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy passed away

Senior CPI leader and former All India General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy (83) passed away. He had been undergoing treatment at Care Hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad for a few days due to illness and breathed his last at 10 pm on Friday.

Born on March 25, 1942 in Kondapalli village of Mahabubnagar district, he was committed to Left-wing politics and the upliftment of the poor throughout his life. Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy is survived by his wife Vijayalakshmi and sons Nikhil and Kapil. Sudhakar Reddy is the son of Venkataram Reddy, younger brother of Telangana freedom fighter and founder of Golkonda Patrika Suravaram Pratap Reddy.

He completed his higher and college education in Kurnool and studied law (LLB) at Osmania University, Hyderabad. He became the national president of AISF in 1970 and AIYF in 1972. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nalgonda parliamentary constituency in the elections held in 1998 and 2004. He continued to serve as the national general secretary of CPI from 2012 to 2019.

His career, which started from AISF, extended to the national general secretary of CPI. Suravaram became the second Telugu person to be elected as the national general secretary after Chandra Rajeshwara Rao. The Communist Party of India, which was once the backbone of the `Visalandhra’ (united Andhra Pradesh) movement, changed its course in the struggle for a separate Telangana, according to party leaders.

AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the death of Sudhakar Reddy. He said that he cannot believe that Sudhakar Reddy, who always thought about the people, is no more. He praised him for not compromising on his values, no matter what position he held.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep shock over the death of Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy. He said that they have lost a great leader who left his mark on the country’s politics. CPI All India General Secretary D. Raja described Suravaram’s death as an irreparable loss. CPM General Secretary MA Baby expressed deep condolences.

BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his condolences, saying that Suravaram, the son of Telangana soil, worked for the upliftment of the oppressed sections of society throughout his life. BJP state president N Ramchandra Rao expressed his condolences and said that he was a man who worked till the end for the principles he believed in, and paid tributes to him.
