A case has been filed against actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra over allegations of defrauding a Mumbai-based businessman. Deepak Kothari, the complainant, alleged that the couple cheated him of Rs 60 crore in connection with an investment agreement. The Juhu police initially registered the case, which was later transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). Investigations into the matter are reportedly ongoing.
According to Kothari, between 2015 and 2023, he invested Rs 60.48 crore for a business venture, but the funds were allegedly diverted for personal use. The agreement was made while Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra were directors of the shopping platform Best Deal TV, where they held more than 87% of the shares. Kothari claimed that Shilpa Shetty personally assured him in April 2016, but resigned from her director position within a few months without disclosure, and the company subsequently went bankrupt.
Shilpa Shetty’s legal team has denied the allegations, stating that the claims circulating in the media are false. They added that the case was adjudicated last year and confirmed that neither Shilpa Shetty nor Raj Kundra had any involvement in the matter.
