Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is said to be intending to follow the Bihar’s experiment of going towards preparing for the Special Comprehensive Revision (SIR) of the Voters’ List in the state While the Election Commission initiated this step only two heads of the assembly polls in Bihar, Chandrababu as a precautionary measure making attempts to start now itself and continue every year, though elections are four years ahead.
As part of this, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is holding a special meeting with representatives of the political parties recognized in the state on the 24th of this month at 11 am at the Secretariat. Invitations have already been sent to the respective parties to attend the meeting.
It has been suggested that the electoral process should be strengthened within the legal framework of the voters’ list and meetings should be held with representatives of political parties on the activities before the revision of voters and their views should be taken. Although the meeting is said to be held to strengthen the electoral system and resolve the problems faced in the election process, analysts believe that this is only to prepare for the implementation of the SIR.
The central government is already fighting a case with the Election Commission in the Supreme Court over the implementation of the Citizenship Act, which has been stalled in the name of amendments. Apart from this, it is known that the opposition parties have announced that they will fight under the name of Sadak Se Sadan Tak (from the street to the house) against the massive deletion of votes.
In the context of the ongoing Parliament sessions, the leaders of the India Block have revealed that the government should be held in Parliament to depose the vote bank politics taking place under the name of Bihar SIR. In this context, it is reliable information that the Center is making plans to reduce the intensity of the deletion of voters by generalizing the SIR process and holding meetings, consultations and suggestions with political parties in all states.
However, a delegation of the Telugu Desam Party recently requested the Central Election Commission in writing that the revision of the voter list should not be linked to citizenship. In this context, it is expected that what the Election Commission will do in the state will be revealed in the meeting on Thursday.
