Tensions have been brewing in Karedu village in Ulavapadu mandal of Nellore district for the past few days. The farmers there are strongly opposing the proposed land acquisition for the solar power project of Indosol Company. Taking it as an advantage, in a strategic move former Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is preparing to fight against the coalition government led by Chandrababu Naidu in support of farmers.
He has also expressed his willingness to visit the village and show solidarity with the farmers. In fact, it was during his tenure the state government had given permission to the company for the solar power project. At that time, the TDP strongly opposed the government move in support of the farmers.
Now, the gram sabha organized by the revenue officials to gather public opinions on this project has become a hot topic. Farmers expressed anger over the steps taken by the TDP, Jana Sena and BJP coalition government in power, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to acquire fertile agricultural lands for the solar power project.
The farmers made it clear that they would not give up their cultivated lands. On this occasion, the farmers recalled that the same TDP had strongly opposed the same Indosol company when it was in the opposition. As tensions increased, police were deployed in Karedu village to prevent any untoward incidents. After that, the situation was gradually brought under control.
Meanwhile, farmers from Karedu village met YSR Congress Party chief Jaganmohan Reddy and handed over a petition to him at the Tadepalli YSRCP central office. They complained that the Chandrababu government was trying to forcibly grab the lands.
They expressed their concern about what would happen to them if the TDP coalition government forcibly took away their green fields in this way. Later, Jaganmohan Reddy assured them that he would support their struggle and promised to come to Karedu village if necessary.
