East Godavari: Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Thursday inaugurated the motors of the Purushottapatnam pump house and offered jal haarathi to the Godavari River. The event marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to improve irrigation infrastructure.
Addressing the media, the minister stated that the previous TDP government had spent ₹70,000 crore on water resources between 2014 and 2019. He added that the Polavaram project, which had remained incomplete, is now progressing rapidly, with the aim of completing it by 2027. “Preparations are in place to ensure uninterrupted work on Polavaram even during flood conditions,” he said.
Godavari Water to Reach 18 Mandals
Water released from the Purushottapatnam pump house is set to benefit 18 mandals in the erstwhile East Godavari district. The initiative is expected to provide irrigation to approximately 1.5 lakh acres of agricultural land.
