Health Minister Satyakumar Asks Health University To conduct surprise Inspections of Medical colleges

Friday, December 5, 2025

Health Minister Satyakumar has asked NTR Health University to be proactive and conduct surprise inspections of medical colleges. Conducting a review on the University functioning, he deplored that there are no records of focusing on improving the quality of education in medical colleges in the state.

He observed that the University is confined to just preparing syllabus and conducting examinations, which would be a violation of the spirit and aspirations of the university’s law. Officials told him that the Health University was established in 1986, and since then, no review has been conducted at the ministerial level.

He said that the very important NTR University is carrying out general responsibilities without focusing on main issues. He directed that a strong surveillance system be created on infrastructure, teaching methods, doctors and student attendance for the quality of higher medical education.

The minister inquired about the research methods, which are the main purpose of establishing the university. He said that despite the fact that government hospitals in the state are providing OP and IP services to thousands of people every day and collecting a huge amount of valuable information related to diseases, there is no excuse for not conducting research on diseases and regions and undertaking research projects in a haphazard manner.

Satyakumar suggested that research should be conducted in a way that contributes to the development of health science. Health University Vice Chancellor Dr. P. Chandrasekhar, Registrar Dr. Radhika Reddy, DME Dr. Narasimham and other officials participated in the review.

The minister spoke to the concerned officials on the demand of doctors who have studied medical education abroad and are waiting for permanent registration. He directed them to immediately go to Delhi and discuss with the NMC on ways to resolve their problems.

As per the minister’s instructions, APMC Chairman Dr. Srihari Rao and Registrar Dr. Ramesh will soon go to Delhi and meet the officials. Officials said that all the candidates who applied for permanent registration till 2021 have been registered, and the subsequent applications are pending for clarification on the internship period to be done in our country.

He said that the National Medical Council has recently imposed a rule that every student who has studied medical education abroad must do an internship in our country for one to two years.
