Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has congratulated veteran actor Kamal Haasan on being inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, describing it as a proud moment for Indian cinema. Haasan was among the prominent Indian names included in the Academy’s 2024 invitee list.
In a statement, Pawan Kalyan praised Haasan’s six-decade-long contribution to the film industry. “The inclusion of Padma Bhushan Kamal Haasan in the prestigious Oscar Academy is a matter of pride for the Indian film fraternity. As an actor, storyteller, and filmmaker, he has left an indelible mark on both Indian and global cinema. His command over filmmaking continues to inspire generations. I hope he continues to serve world cinema for many more years,” he said.
The Academy recently released its 2024 list of 534 new invitees, which includes Kamal Haasan, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, filmmaker Payal Kapadia, and fashion designer Maxima Basu from India. As Academy members, they will be eligible to vote in the final selection process for Oscar-nominated films. The Academy noted that it is delighted to welcome such distinguished talent into its global body.
