The Andhra Pradesh High Court, which heard the bail petition of journalist VVR Krishnam Raju, has ordered that the videos in which Krishnam Raju spoke be placed before it. The court adjourned the hearing on the bail petition to Friday. Krishnam Raju was arrested by the Thullur police after he made objectionable comments on the women of Amaravati in a Sakshi Channel debate and sent to remand.
Krishnam Raju had filed a petition in the High Court seeking bail in this case. During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer DSNV Prasad Babu told the court that all the sections registered against the petitioner are punishable by up to seven years. However, he was reminded that the magistrate had imposed judicial custody.
Public Prosecutor Menda Lakshmi Narayana argued that the magistrate had given the remand order only after considering all the factors. He explained that the petitioner’s comments were insulting to women and revealed that Krishnam Raju released another video to incite people after arresting Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, who was A2.
On the other hand, the AP High Court has ordered the AP Police to consider the case filed by the Thullur police against senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao as the main case. It has suggested that other cases registered across AP for inappropriate comments be registered as statements.
The Thullur police have registered a case against Kommineni in the matter of inappropriate comments against women in the Amaravati area in the Sakshi Channel debate. Cases have been registered in various police stations across the state on the same matter. Kommineni has filed a petition in the High Court seeking an order to order the police to treat all those cases as a single FIR.
The petitioner has requested that the cases registered in various police stations across the state on the same matter, except the first FIR registered by the Thullur police, be quashed. The High Court has ordered the police to treat the complaint as statements under Section 162 of the CrPC and stayed all further action based on the cases registered by the police in other police stations except the Thullur police station. High Court judge Justice N. Harinath issued orders to this effect on Wednesday.
