Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president and actor Kamal Haasan expressed anger during a party meeting in Chennai after a supporter pressured him to raise a ceremonial sword presented to him on stage. The incident, captured on video, quickly went viral.
The party event took place following Kamal Haasan’s unopposed election to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu as part of the DMK-led alliance. During the gathering, some fans gifted him a sword. While Kamal accepted the gift, he declined to raise it, citing discomfort. When a supporter persisted, Kamal lost his temper momentarily. A police officer present at the venue intervened to calm the situation. Moments later, Kamal shook hands with the fan and bid farewell with a smile, defusing the tension.
In a separate development, the Karnataka High Court on Friday questioned whether Kamal Haasan had issued an apology over his past controversial remarks on the Kannada language. The court asked his legal representative, including that of Raj Kamal Films, why he escalated the matter without acknowledging historical inaccuracies or offering an apology. The court adjourned the hearing to June 20.
