The Mangalagiri court has remanded journalist VVR Krishnam Raju to 14 days in a case of making inappropriate comments about women in the capital Amaravati. It has issued orders remanding him till the 26th of this month.

Earlier, the Mangalagiri judge asked Krishnam Raju whether he would listen to the words he had spoken about women on the Sakshi TV Debate again? Can a person who has worked in journalism for 38 years speak like this? The main accused (A-1) in the case of making comments calling the capital Amaravati the capital of prostitutes replied that he understood that he had made a mistake.

When asked on what basis he made the comments, Krishnam Raju replied that he had copies of newspapers. When the judge asked Krishnam Raju if he had anything to say, he remained silent without giving any answer. When asked if the police had caused any trouble, he replied that he had not.

In this case registered at the Thullur police station, Krishnam Raju was arrested by the Bhimili police near Visakhapatnam and handed over to the Thullur police. He was taken to the Nallapadu police station on Wednesday night. On Thursday afternoon, the police conducted a medical examination of Krishnam Raju at the Guntur GGH.

Later, he was produced in the Principal Junior Civil Judge’s Court in Mangalagiri. Magistrate Suresh Babu remanded him for 14 days. With this, the police took Krishnam Raju to the district jail in Guntur. The second accused in the same case, Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, is also in remand in this jail.

While Krishnam Raju was being loaded into the vehicle, Amaravati women farmers reached the main gate of the Mangalagiri court. They shouted slogans demanding strict punishment for Krishnam Raju and threw water packets at him. This created tension there for a while. Krishnam Raju was shifted from Nallapadu jail to Mangalagiri court amidst heavy security.

Krishnam Raju’s petition seeking anticipatory bail came up for hearing in the High Court on Thursday. His lawyer responded that the petitioner was arrested by the police and the anticipatory bail petition was futile. Justice TCD Shekhar, who recorded these arguments, announced that the hearing on the case was being closed.

Meanwhile, the other accused Kommineni filed a bail petition. Special advocate Veeragandham Rajendra Prasad sought four days to file a counter to this, and the court allowed it.
