As Netflix gears up to stream Rana Naidu Season 2 starting Friday, actor Rana Daggubati has opened up about some of the challenges he faced during the filming and dubbing of the show. In a recent interview with an English media outlet, Rana shared how certain dialogues—particularly those involving abusive language directed at co-star and real-life uncle Venkatesh—posed emotional discomfort during the Telugu dubbing process.
Rana explained that while dubbing for Season 1 in Hindi, he was unaware of the gravity of some of the profanity used, assuming them to be just script lines. “I didn’t realize I was abusing Babai. But while dubbing in Telugu, it was emotionally difficult. I questioned how to deliver such lines. Eventually, I understood that as actors, we sometimes have to step completely into our characters, however uncomfortable,” he said. He also expressed his long-standing wish to work with Venkatesh, calling this series a dream come true and noting how the veteran actor inspired him to push his performance further.
Directed by Suparn Varma and Karan Anshuman, Rana Naidu is an action-crime drama that first premiered in 2023 and was simultaneously released in Hindi and Telugu. Despite its popularity, the show drew criticism for its strong language and mature content. Rana revealed that Venkatesh, who plays his father in the series, would sometimes call him ‘Rana’ instead of his character name ‘Raina’ on set, creating a surreal overlap between real life and fiction.
