AP Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Shailaja expressing her anger over the abusive comments broadcast on Sakshi media against Amaravati women, has demanded the complete closure of such channels run under the guise of politics.
She said that police action has already been initiated by the DGP and requested the National Commission for Women also to respond to this issue. She said that she would write a letter to the Press Council of India and demand that the such channel and paper be closed down, adding that the Women’s Commission will take its own action within its jurisdiction.
Rayapati Sailaja said that everyone knows who owns Sakshi Channel, what is in it and that they have hatred for the women of Amaravati. She criticized them for not saying anything out of the blue, but for continuing the discussion with a vengeance. She questioned why the person who apologized to their management in the explanation did not apologize to the women?
She made it clear that the government would take legal action, saying that she was being trolled even if she was driving her own car and even if she was wearing a chudidar. She expressed her grief that women from one region were insulted and that the debate continued while making obscene comments.
Will they attribute a bad name to one region for political reasons?, she asked. Alleging that those words were deliberately used in a public debate, Rayapati Sailaja said that the women of the Amaravati region had sacrificed and suffered many hardships and losses in the last five years.
She was angry that they could not bear to see the development of Amaravati after the change of government and spoke badly of the women of Amaravati. She made it clear that those who said these comments, those who felt it, those who campaigned- all deserve punishment. She expressed her grief that attacking women’s self-esteem has become common in the last five years.
She warned political parties, channels and their respective managements that they may criticize them politically and not to be silent if they harass women on unnecessary matters. Stating that no taken any action in the last five years, she asserted that now the Women’s Commission will work differently.
