Farmers and women from the capital region Amaravati protested on Saturday, expressing their anger on Sakshi TV Channel against describing Amaravati as not the capital of `Gods’, but the capital of `Prostitutes’, in a TV debate.
They demanded action against a poisonous campaign by Sakshi TV and to register a case against the journalist VV Krishnam Raju who made such a comment, the anchor Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, who allowed him and the management. They want to arrest them.
As part of this, a rally was held from Thullur movement camp to the police station. Then they filed a complaint against Sakshi and appealed to take strict action against those who insulted women in the capital area. They also demanded Sakshi TV owner YS Bharathi Reddy, wife of former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, to apologize for this program
Later, the women became angry and asked how can they call Amaravati women as prostitutes and sex workers? They asked in anger, “Do you all come here and do vile things? Are there no women in your houses? You should beat us with slippers. Do you call us prostitutes or say that there are AIDS centers here?”
They recalled that as many as 270 farmers have died in the last five years due to Jaganmohan Reddy’s sins. They warned that if there is no apology within 24 hours, they would seize Sakshi offices. They also warned that if Krishnam Raju is not arrested, they would go to his house and beat him with slippers.
Meanwhile, The Journalists Association of Andhra Pradesh (JAP) has demanded that the state government should take strict action against Krishnam Raju, who made inappropriate comments about the women of Amaravati in a debate on Sakshi TV, and against anchor K. Srinivasa Rao, who allowed his comments.
JAAP demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Press Academy Chairman Alapati Suresh Kumar should lead the movement and stand by the women of Amaravati who are agitating against this. JAAP said that it believes that his leadership has increased with his assuming the responsibility of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Amaravati movement and assuming the post of Chairman of the State Press Academy.
Therefore, JAAP calls on the Chairman of the Press Academy to take full responsibility for this incident and to launch a movement in full support of the women of Amaravati.
