Rajinikanth appeared in a guest role in Lal Salaam, a social drama directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Although expectations and star value were very high, the film fared poorly at the box office and could not reach a broader audience.
Compounding the film’s woes, Lal Salaam also encountered some surprises during its post-release phase. Aishwarya disclosed that an essential hard drive carrying crucial footage had vanished from sight, which allegedly held up the film’s digital release and generated much chatter and speculation on the net.
Now, months of speculation later, Lal Salaam is finally preparing for its OTT release. Although previous reports indicated the film would be available on Netflix, the digital rights have been picked up by Sun NXT. Assuming reports to be true, the film will be streaming from June 6, 2025. A confirmation from Sun NXT will shortly be announced.
With music by iconic composer A.R. Rahman and an unforgettable cameo by Rajinikanth, Lal Salaam is seeking a digital resurgence. Audiences who could not catch the film in theaters during its original release are waiting to watch it online in the hopes that it receives the respect it could not earn in theaters.
