Actress Rakul Preet Singh recently voiced her concern over the excessive use of social media and the public’s growing focus on trivial matters. Speaking on a recent podcast, she highlighted how a simple ‘like’ by cricket star Virat Kohli on a post from actress Avneet Kaur’s fan page sparked massive discussion.
Rakul said, “Virat Kohli’s like on Avneet Kaur’s fan page post became a huge topic. Following that, Avneet gained nearly 2 million followers. This is quite distressing. It makes me wonder if we all have so much free time on our hands.”
She added, “No one even considered whether Virat liked the post intentionally or by mistake. Sometimes we accidentally unfollow our own friends on Instagram. But since Kohli is a celebrity, even minor incidents related to him go viral. This is very unfortunate. He has already clarified the matter.”
Rakul further expressed disappointment over how people waste time on social media over trivial celebrity news, calling it “completely unnecessary.”
Earlier, Virat Kohli had addressed the issue, explaining that the ‘like’ happened accidentally while clearing his Instagram feed. He urged fans not to read any hidden meaning into it or spread unnecessary rumors. Despite this, reports from Bollywood circles indicated that Avneet Kaur’s followers surged significantly after the incident, along with an increase in promotional opportunities for her.
On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh is currently starring in the highly anticipated film Indian 3, directed by renowned filmmaker Shankar.
