The Telugu movie Baby, starring Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya, was a blockbuster hit when it came out. Directed by Sai Rajesh, the sentimental romantic drama resonated with people and achieved remarkable box office figures. Its runaway success naturally generated interest in remaking the movie in other languages—most notably Hindi.
Though no official word was given, pre-production of the Hindi remake had already commenced in the background. Promising new talent Babil Khan, son of great Irrfan Khan, was brought on board to essay the male lead. However, in a recent shocking development, Babil announced that he has left the project.
Taking to social media, Babil posted a heartfelt message, referring to how much he wanted to work with director Sai Rajesh and how thrilled he was to be able to repeat the magic of Baby in Hindi. Sadly, for unavoidable personal reasons, he said he would no longer remain a part of the film. He also announced that he is on a break and wished the whole team good luck. Babil commended Sai Rajesh’s talent and vision, further stating that he hopes to collaborate with him in the future.
In response to Babil’s declaration, director Sai Rajesh came up with a heartwarming comment. He remembered Babil as being among the hardest working and brightest young actors he has ever worked with. Though saddened by the news, Sai Rajesh stated that he understands and respects Babil’s choice and expects their paths to cross again on another project.
Babil’s unexpected departure has put the Hindi remake of Baby in limbo for the time being. With the casting now back in the picture, the fans wonder who will take Babil’s place in the lead role. Social media rumination meanwhile still circulates around the logic of his departure, particularly after he had earlier posted (and subsequently deleted) a cryptic message alluding to emotional turmoil and stress in the acting profession.
