The entire country felt proud of armed forces `Operation Sindoor’ demolishing terror headquarters in Pakistan and PoK and also later showed its might by successfully hitting hundreds of Pakistan’s drones and missiles. But an abrupt and unconditional ceasefire announced by the government created widespread discontent among people.
Particularly, supporters of BJP are unable to digest after their own government declared sudden ceasefire, allegedly due to apparent pressures from the USA. As a result, foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was forced to lock his X account after he and his daughter were viciously trolled, for the fact he announced the government’s decision of ceasefire.
As most netizens hesitated to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers, it seems he became a soft target. Countless netizens who were openly calling for a major retaliation against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack were disappointed with the ceasefire agreement and vented their ire on him and his daughter Didon.
Misri was called derogatory words like “Gaddar”, “Deshdrohi” as well as “shameless man and family.”Didon, a law student, had worked for the cause of Rohingya refugees.
However, he received support from veteran diplomat Nirupama Menon Rao and politicians Asaduddin Owaisi and Akhilesh Yadav. Samajwadi Party chief Yadav wrote a long post on X in Hindi and said such statements break the morale of honest officers who work day and night with dedication to the country.
“It is the government’s responsibility to make decisions – not of individual officers. Some anti-social elements are openly crossing all limits and using abusive language against the officer and his family, but neither the BJP government nor any of its ministers is coming forward to protect his honour or discuss the possible action against those who make such unwanted posts,” wrote Yadav.
Former foreign secretary Nirupama Menon called the trolling of the senior diplomat “utterly shameful” and said it “crosses every line of decency”.
“It’s utterly shameful to troll Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his family over the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement. A dedicated diplomat, Misri has served India with professionalism and resolve, and there is no ground whatsoever for his vilification.
“Doxxing his daughter and abusing his loved ones crosses every line of decency. This toxic hate must stop—stand united behind our diplomats, not tear them down. #StopTrollingMisri #SupportDiplomats #VikramMisri #IndianDiplomacy #NoToDoxxing,” she posted on X.
MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi posted, “Mr Vikram Misri is a decent and an honest hard working diplomat working tirelessly for our nation. Our civil servants work under the Executive. This must be remembered & they shouldn’t be blamed for the decisions taken by The Executive /or any Political leadership running Watan E Aziz.“ (dear motherland).
Salman Aneez Soz, Congress leader, was livid in his comment. “A Kashmiri has done India proud. No amount of trolling can diminish his service to the country. If you can’t say thank you, learn to shut up.”
MLA Sachin Pilot, also the AICC General Secretary-in charge of Chattisgarh said, “I condemn the social media trolling directed at family of the Foreign Secretary. It’s unacceptable to target the professional diplomats and civil servants – those who work dedicatedly to serve the nation.”
